What Are You Waiting For?

How many times have you read or heard the passage of Isaiah, “wait upon the Lord and He will renew your strength?”* Multiple times, I assume. We love this verse! Rightfully so. For we find encouragement in this passage.

  • Wait on the Lord,
  • Allow Him to comfort,
  • Trust Him to lead,
  • He will do what He alone can do,
  • Rest in His arms as your Father.

These are words we hold onto with all our might.

I know I am not the only Daughter of the King who has found herself clinging to this verse and these truths. I know I am not alone in craving His embrace. I know it’s not just me. How thankful I am that His Arms stretch far and wide to you and to me. How amazing that He will always be as He promises to be!

However, there is a different “wait” recorded in 1 Corinthians. This wait has been blowing my mind.

Not only is it different from the redundant statement of “Hurry up and wait.” It is also different from the comfort we behold in Isaiah’s declaration to “wait upon the Lord and he will renew.”

In this wait, we are not waiting for an uncertain end, nor are we waiting for strength to press on. We are waiting for the brightness of the personal appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ to be unveiled!

Read that again.

We are waiting for our eyes to physically behold Jesus Christ. Before our eyes, The Lord will appear in all His glorified brightness! My eyes, your eyes, are waiting for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

That’s huge!

This is what we get to wait for!

Do you find yourself standing silently beside me gazing upward with a dropped jaw and sparkled tears in your eyes? Are you slowly shaking your head in pure awe and unbelief that you get to wait for such a miraculous appearing as this?

Oh, friend. I cannot contain this word. Wait. Wait!

So that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ.
