This Supplement is a Gift from God Intended for Use!

Father, I pray the emotions of darkness will be silenced in the presence of your most joyous Light! (From yesterday’s prayer journal)

“To pray” is the answer to conquring the overwhelming emotions of darkness.

Don’t we know this truth? Don’t we tell this to our friends when they are in the bowels? Don’t we hear this from our mentors and friends during our dark battles?

“Pray.”

“Pray.”

“Just pray. You’ll get through this.”

When I’m on the mountain top or even on my way up a proverbial hillside, this solution to the matter is the most obvious truth. This truth springs out of me like a rushing wave of exhilarating joy! I love these days, these moments, this reality!

However, some days are different. These days are far less frequent then they used to be. But they still come and they suck.

~ These days in which I speak are those days when I feel like a blanket of my past is laid heavily upon me.

~ These days I refer to feel like a reminder of my inabilities presented before me on an overly large flat screen tv.

~ These days of which I write seem to come out of nowhere with an utter determination to take me down.

And I pray.

Yet, the weight of the blanket remains.

And I pray.

Yet the tv is still on.

And I pray.

Yet, I’m still lying flat on the ground.

I want to say this next statement with discretion. And I pray it is received with an open heart.

There are times when the emotions of darkness require us to do more than pray.

Sweet Sister, doing more than praying to God does not diminish your love for God or faith in Him. Nor does adding something to prayer take away from your dependency on His Presence.

If what we supplement to our prayer life in these battles with darkness allow the evidential presence of the light of Jesus to shine, then this supplement is a gift from God intended for use!

Does that make sense? Read that again. A supplement to prayer is a gift from God intended for use!

I suppose the question remains, “What is the supplement?

That supplemental gift from God is A friend.

The book of Proverbs points to this truth a time or two, doesn’t it?

Jesus refers to this truth, doesn’t he? He lived it, he witnessed it, he healed through it because he designed it.

Think about that?

~ He designed us to need a friend that loves at all times.

~ Then, he chose to enter the reality of living in the flesh. And in the flesh, he chose his friends.

~ He had friends that he depended on.

~ He was real with these men.

~ He trusted these men with his truth and his words and his tears and his prayers.

When darkness attempts to overshadow the presence of Jesus’ light, text a friend.

Oh, how I have done this! I remember the first time I did this. It was a frightful vulnerability that proved to be a game changer.

This is why my dark days are less today than they once were.

A Friend.

A friend is a gift from God to be used

as a supplement to prayer

when the battle is to cumbersome to stand.

  1. You reminded me of when Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, He told His disciples to pray. No, the Bible doesn’t have Him specifying what to pray, but He probably wanted them to pray for the same thing He was praying for at the time. So yes, He is all for us asking friends to pray for us too. And I also think besides praying that singing praise songs often helps me when I’m at a low spot. Sometimes it’s hard to get started depending on how I’m feeling (and I am NOT a good singer, haha!), but when I do start, the Lord often seems to open my lungs where I feel I can breathe easier. 💕 Thank you for sharing this!

    1. I agree! Worship is a beautiful resource of breath and revitalized energy. Thank you for adding that advice! 🙂
