… And Pray.

He who is void of wisdom despises his neighbor: but a man of understanding holds his peace. Proverbs 11:12 (MEV)

Here we learn a definition we ought to have define our personal lives.

What we learn from this verse is a simple solution to many questions thrown at us day after day. The answer is this: Pray for wisdom and shut your mouth! Living a peaceful lifestyle truly takes time and practice, but if there is one thing we need to practice, time and again, it is the art of binding unnecessary words that quickly stir up strife, destroy relationships, and ruin the sweet testimony of Jesus Christ.

To put it bluntly… all too often we state our complaint about our neighbor, attributing our unnecessary words to be their fault. However, whether the words regarding the neighbor is truth or exemplified in our thoughts, spoken unnecessary words are always the fault of the mouth that proclaimed them.

Again, the answer is simple…

Pray for wisdom. Proverbs 11:9 says, “an hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor,” and verse 12 states, “he that is void of wisdom despises his neighbor.” If we, with our words, are demonstrating hypocrisy and hatred toward another, yet we claim the name of Jesus as our Life and Love, then according to this passage we are nothing more than a foolish hypocrite while the very Name that matters above all else is slandered.

To me, I would much rather seek this advice and pray for wisdom … and then shut my mouth. James tells us how to pray for wisdom.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally and without criticism, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, without wavering…Let not that man think that he will receive anything from the Lord.” James 1:5-6

His guideline:

  1. Ask God.
  2. Receive it
  3. Ask and Receive in Faith … “for he who wavers is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed with the wind.”

I love you all! Much prayer over each and every one of my sweet subscribers! xoxo

  1. I am reminded of a story I heard recently by a pastor in Singapore. Justice in Singapore is swift and unmerciful! A man was caught and facing many felony counts. His Christian wife began praying. Before his court date he received Jesus. Understanding that Jesus took the penalty for his sin he was incredulous but prayed for mercy. His sentence was miraculously reduced to time served!! Unheard of! He is now so on fire for God and working at the church where no one can believe he was once a criminal.

    1. Marianna, I love that story! It’s the sweet ending we long to hear from the Bible account of a man’s freed debts. How beautiful! Thank you for laying this story, the ever presence of God’s love in all the world, on my heart this morning. xoxo
